NPA leader, brother surrender to Police in Davao Occidental

DAVAO CITY– A leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) and his younger brother surrendered to the members of the Revitalized-Pulis Sa Barangay (R-PSB) in Barangay Manuel Peralta, Malita, Davao Occidental on February 9.

In a report sent to News Fort, the surrenderers were members of the dismantled Guerilla Front (DGF) 75 operating in the areas of Davao Occidental and nearby provinces.

They were identified as Ka Bagwis, 38, and a resident of Brgy. Pinalpalan, Malita, Davao Occidental, and his younger brother Alias Bruno Dos, 32 years old.

Bagwis was recruited by the NPA some 15 years ago and was a former Commander of DGF75 of Davao Occidental, a Medic, and a Political Instructor of DAGUMA FSMR.

The former NPA rebels also yielded 2 Garand Rifle; magazines; various ammunition; 45 Caliber Pistol; SD card containing subversive documents with high intelligence value; and a hand grenade.

Bagwis' surrender came after learning that despite their diligent efforts to convince the populace to support their movement none of them participated for this reason.

He said the people in the community now are in support of the R-PSB Program of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and that a number of members of their group surrendered to authorities.
