This was announced by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at SM City Davao Annex on October 9.
Gregorio described this year’s delegation as the largest in the history of the Philippines’ participation in the biennial regional competition.
“In previous SEA Games, our approach was to focus on medal potentials, so we sent a smaller group,” Gregorio explained. “But this time, we’re shifting our focus toward exposure* — giving more athletes the chance to gain first-hand experience in international competition early in their careers.
According to him, this new strategy aims to develop young talents by allowing them to compete against the region’s best, strengthening their confidence and skills for future international events.
“Under my leadership, the goal is to train athletes from the grassroots level, help them win gold medals, and eventually become great in their chosen sports,” Gregorio added.
He also noted thatswimming and boxing will once again field some of the largest contingents, given the Philippines’ long-standing strength in these disciplines.
Gregorio emphasized that beyond the pursuit of medals, this year’s participation embodies the PSC’s renewed commitment to holistic sports development—one that nurtures both seasoned and emerging athletes to carry the country’s pride in the international arena.
With the largest-ever Philippine delegation heading to Thailand, the 2025 SEA Games will not only test the nation’s athletic prowess but also mark a bold step toward shaping the next generation of Filipino sports champions.
